Nedbank is taking significant steps to combat youth unemployment in South Africa with its latest Youth Employment Service (YES) cohort.

On 17 July 2026, the bank welcomed 2,150 young participants at its Sandton headquarters, emphasizing its commitment to providing meaningful workplace experiences, skills development, and mentorship. Since joining the YES initiative in 2019, Nedbank has created over 19,000 one-year work opportunities for young South Africans.

Nedbank Launches New Youth Employment Initiative

The event, themed “Team Green believes in YOUth,” marked the beginning of a transformative journey for the new cohort. Participants will gain 12 months of work experience in various roles within Nedbank and through its implementation partners, enhancing the program’s reach across South Africa.

Jason Quinn, Group Chief Executive of Nedbank, addressed the youth, highlighting the importance of financial planning and the bank’s investment in youth empowerment. He emphasized that the YES Youth cohort represents the future of both the organization and the country.

Impact of YES on South Africa’s Youth

Daniel Mminele, Chairperson of the Nedbank Group Board, underscored the economic significance of youth employment. He stated that addressing youth unemployment is not just a social responsibility but a business imperative crucial for South Africa’s future economic growth.

Ravi Naidoo, CEO of YES, shared insights on the importance of embracing growth opportunities and building confidence. He reiterated that the YES program aims to create real work experiences that empower young people.

Upcoming Steps for the YES Cohort

  • Participants will begin their 12-month work experience across various roles.
  • Alumni will share their success stories to inspire the new cohort.
  • Continued partnerships between YES and businesses will be emphasized for greater impact.

Nedbank’s commitment to youth employment is paving the way for a brighter future in South Africa.
