As Transport Month draws to a close, Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) proudly reflects on its outstanding performance at the 2025 naamsa Accelerator Awards, where the company was honoured with five accolades. These awards serve as a powerful testament to Toyota’s enduring commitment to excellence, transformation and economic development in the local automotive industry.

Held during SA Auto Week at the Coega Vulindlela Conference Centre, the naamsa Accelerator Awards celebrate the best in automotive innovation and impact. Toyota South Africa Motors was recognised in the following categories:

  • Light Commercial Vehicle of the Year – Toyota Hilux
  • Other Commercial Vehicle Achiever of the Year – Toyota Quantum
  • New Energy Traditional Hybrid Vehicle of the Year – Corolla Cross Hybrid
  • Job Creators – Local Manufacturing OEM
  • Youth Empowering – Local Manufacturing OEM

These accolades reflect Toyota’s unwavering commitment to building vehicles that meet the unique needs of South African consumers while driving inclusive economic growth.

The Toyota Hilux, South Africa’s top-selling bakkie, continues to lead the light commercial segment with its unmatched durability, versatility and reliability - qualities that resonate deeply with South African drivers across urban and rural landscapes.

The Toyota Quantum, recognised for its contribution to the commercial sector, remains a vital player in South Africa’s transport ecosystem. Its robust design and spacious interior make it the vehicle of choice for fleet operators and logistics providers nationwide.

The Corolla Cross Hybrid represents Toyota’s forward-thinking approach to sustainable mobility. As the winner in the New Energy Vehicle category, the vehicle offers South Africans an accessible, fuel-efficient alternative that aligns with environmental goals.

Beyond product excellence, Toyota’s recognition in the Job Creators and Youth Empowering categories highlights its strategic role in tackling South Africa’s unemployment crisis. Through initiatives like the Youth Employment Service (YES), TSAM has created over 4,000 work opportunities for young people, equipping them with critical skills and pathways to long-term employment.

Reflecting on the achievements, Andrew Kirby, President and CEO of Toyota South Africa Motors said, “We are deeply honoured by the recognition received at the 2025 naamsa Accelerator Awards. These accolades are a tribute to the dedication of our employees, dealer network and partners who continue to drive our mission forward. At Toyota South Africa Motors, we believe in building more than just cars - we build communities, careers and a sustainable future for South Africa. As we close Transport Month, we reaffirm our commitment to transformation, innovation and local empowerment.”

Toyota South Africa Motors remains a cornerstone of the national economy, holding a market-leading 24.7% share in new vehicle sales and maintaining strong export volumes. Its Durban plant is a hub of innovation and employment, producing vehicles that meet the evolving needs of South African consumers.

As the automotive industry progresses toward new energy solutions and inclusive development, Toyota stands ready to lead the way, delivering vehicles that South Africans trust, while investing in the people who drive the nation forward.
