Mercedes-Benz South Africa (MBSA) has been certified as a Top Employer in South Africa for the seventh consecutive year. MBSA has also retained its prestigious title of Top Employer Industry Leader in the automotive category for the fourth consecutive year.
These accolades were announced at the Top Employers Institute awards ceremony held at Sandton Convention Centre on 19 January 2023. The annual certification is awarded to companies from 121 countries in six regions around the world, who have achieved excellence in employee conditions.
Commenting on the certification, Executive Director of Human Resources and Corporate Affairs, Abey Kgotle said: “Our people are an essential ingredient that contributes to the success of our business. Retaining the Top Employer Industry Leader status for the fourth consecutive year is testament to our commitment to enriching the world of work through our employee offerings. This achievement reaffirms our deliberate efforts of being an employer of choice and to make working at Mercedes-Benz South Africa a great place to work.”
The Top Employer Certification is awarded to companies with an outstanding employee focus, who develop their people strategies to provide the best working environments for employees. The Institute certifies organisations based on the participation and results of their HR Best Practices Survey that covers six HR domains consisting of 20 topics such as People Strategy, Work Environment, Talent Acquisition, Learning, Well-being and Diversity & Inclusion and more. The survey evaluates the degree to which the topics are supported and implemented through strategic focus, integration of managers and use of technology in the individual companies.
Between 2021 and 2022, MBSA spent approximately R165 million on various training programmes and initiatives for its employees. The company’s development programmes include: leadership development programmes, technical programmes, graduate development programme, student internship programme, disability learnerships and bursaries for tertiary students. In addition, through the implementation of programmes that also support the core MBSA business, the company achieved B-BBEE Level 2 status in 2022. Furthermore, in support of redressing the unemployment scourge in South Africa, MBSA participated in the Youth Employment Services (YES) initiative, a business-led collaboration with government which provides an opportunity to unemployed youth in South Africa for development and job creation opportunities.
“The recognition by the Top Employer Institute strengthens our Employer Branding, is a validation of our high standards and our continued dedication to create a work environment that promotes excellence,” concluded Kgotle.
