2024 has been a year of impact – for YES, our partners, and the youth we serve. As we wrap up the year, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our partners who share our commitment to transforming young South Africans' lives.
Together, we’ve achieved remarkable milestones, including 166,062 jobs to date and over R9.3 billion injected into the economy through YES Youth salaries. With your support, YES is the largest full-time, 12-month youth employment programme in South Africa. In this blog, we celebrate 2024’s successes and look forward to even greater achievements in 2025.
2024 in summary
YES marked a significant year with impactful events and initiatives, including the highly anticipated YES Top 35 Under 35 Awards, which celebrated young leaders and entrepreneurs driving change in South Africa. These events, along with continued collaborations with key partners, helped to bolster YES's mission of enhancing the employability of youth across the country.
The latest Quarterly Labour Force Survey for quarter three reported a 0.6% decrease to 55.4% in the overall expanded definition for youth aged 15-34. Despite the decrease, there are still 7.19 million young South Africans unemployed and discouraged. As we face this enormous youth unemployment challenge in South Africa, we take pride in the meaningful impact the YES salary has on families and communities.
